Idenshi no Nekomata

[Gene of the Fork-Tailed Cat]

tumblr_n61h5mUGGk1spkzlyo1_500.gif

Commonly mistaken as a genetic mutation inherited by the Furousha clan formerly of Yuki no Kuni, the Idenshi no Nekomata is a synthetic kekkei genkai created some hundred and fifty years ago by an ambitious collective of Yukigakure scientists who wished to mass-produce jinchuuriki for their nation's use during its potential rise to greatness. Over many years, countless abducted infants were subject to chakra "blending" with fractions of captured Bijuu chakra. Much to the distress of the researchers, none of these transplantations "stuck", and many of the infants either perished or were robbed of too much of their chakra to continue experimentation. Eventually, however, the research team stumbled upon something rare and valuable: one of the last free-roaming yokai, nearing the end of its life. After subduing the creature, the team blended the yokai's last remaining chakra with the captured essence of the two-tailed bijuu, and merged the resulting "stable" chakra with as many children as they had access to. The children were forever changed- caught in a state halfway between demon and human, forever marred by the ambitious science experiments.

Those that survived took on several feline features; their ears were replaced with cat-like ears located usually atop their head- some Furousha were known to have vestigial, small, auditory cavities where their ears once were or should have been. Their nails and teeth lengthened and hardened into ferocious claws and fangs, while their pupils shifted and elongated- taking on the primary appearance of a cat's eye. Similarly, they were given a tail with which to stabilize their movements- and in some cases, this tail was known to be prehensile. Adding further to this amalgamation of human-bestial attributes, there were frequent cases of the gene inheritor's bones fusing with portions of the iron within their blood over time, lending their skeletal structure enhanced weight and strength.

Though the original bearers of the gene possessed a chakra similar to that of the bijuu jinchuuriki, later generations inherited none of that massive chakra. Instead, they have been known to be conduits for abnormal energies- be it natural or otherwise.

Physiological Attributes

Arsenal of the Cat God

Effect: This character gains two (2) 'Claw'-type medium weapons with the attribute 'Free-handed' upon taking this skill's first rank. 'Claw'-type weapons granted by this skill possess a level equal to x(y/3), wherein x is equal to this character's level and y is equal to the current number of ranks in this skill. When purchasing ranks in this skill, this character may select 'Sharpened Edge' or 'Lightened Craft' and apply one rank of that attribute to both 'Claw'-type weapons. These weapons have a maximum level of 120 and may only have additional upgrades through skills.
Cost: -1
Ranks: 3

Feline Superhuman Sensory
Effect: 'Blind' caused by physical darkness is instead downgraded to 'Impaired Eyesight'; this character is now immune to 'Impaired Eyesight' caused by physical darkness that was not caused by this skill. Similarly, This character passively receives +X to their Accuracy and Evasion stats as long as their eyesight remains unimpaired, where X is equal to their level. This may stack with other effects, but may not cause this character's accuracy or evasion to exceed 1.5 times its base.
Cost: -2

Osteogenesis Ferrum
Effect: When struck by a Taijutsu, Basic, or Weapon attack, treat the Furousha's defense as if it were increased by 10% of its base for the purposes of modifying that attack. Additionally, the Furousha may not have their limbs rendered incapacitated by means of bone breakage or limb removal(or similar effects) except by jutsu of a higher rank than the taker of this skill.
-3

The Ideal Host

Yokai Synergy

Effect: Reduce the upkeep of Yokai cloaks by 5% per rank in this skill.

Ranks: 5

Cost: -1 per Rank

Restrictions: Ranks may only be taken every 15 levels, beginning at level 15.

Dormant Power

Effect: This character may now purchase skills owned by their Yokai. Purchasing these skills only reduces the Cloak level required to access that skill by one (1) Cloak level, it does not give access to the skill without the Cloak.

Cost: -1

Most of the stuff is pretty much the same as the old Furousha right? They seem okay.

Um, 50% is probably too big of a reduction for Yokai cloaks. They're balanced around their costs, and such. Um, I'd say a maximum of 25% would be much more fair.

Not sure how I feel about the first one. I don't particularly hate the idea, just gonna need some thinking.

Sage one... uh, I'm gonna go with no. Seems way out of character of the bloodline, since they're cat/yokai people. Also, this is another going against the balancing of an advanced system kind of thing. I'd say skip this one and focus on yokai stuff.

Dormant Power changed so that it no longer grants access to yokai skills with no cloak being active. Reduced the cost to -1, as they still have to purchase the skills they want to access with lower cloak ranks.

Fixing some formatting and typos.

"immune to [impaired Eyesight] caused by physical darkness. Similarly, [blind] caused by physical darkness is..."

The last skill feels misleading. As worded it feels like you are obtaining the skill yourself for use without cloak. I also feel like paying SP to get earlier access to skills isn't all that great, but it could be in some edge situations with certain skills. For wording though, let's try this...

"This character may now purchase skills owned by their Yokai. Purchasing these skills only reduces the Cloak level required to access that skill by one (1) Cloak level, it does not give access to the skill without the Cloak. The character must have unlocked the required Cloak level to purchase skills through this means."

I also think maybe we should just remove the last line. I don't think its too back breaking to allow early access in exchange for SP, and player drive is to always use the highest level of cloak (even if its not the best strategy).

Moved back to get a fix for Arsenal of the Cat God. I would suggest just changing it to the following...

These weapons are treated as if they had three ranks of "Lightened Craft" and "Sharpened Edge" in any combination of the user's choosing when they take this skill.

Also you can have them have the attribute 'Free Handed' as well instead of spelling out the handseals bit.

Fixed!

Changelog:

Arsenal of the Cat God: Updated to be 3 ranks. Each Rank grants the claw weapons better scaling and one rank of Lightened Craft or Sharpened Edge. Now gives 'Free-handed' out the gate rather than some weird mechanic about not taking up hands and being basic attacks.

Feline Superhuman Sensory: Removed the drawback pertaining to Impaired Hearing/Smell and Deafened. At -2, this breaks even at +2x passive stat gain and the Impaired Eyesight/Blind effect is so fringe that it'll probably never come into play.

Font: Now in Century Gothic, because that was what was really broken here.
