Current Residence:

18px-Kumogakure_Symbol.svg.png Village Hidden in the Clouds | Kumogakure no Sato |雲隠れの里

Clan Age:

Old. The Sokudo existed long before Kumo's creation, and they will survive long after. They have withstood the test of time, and a great holocaust, and have come out stronger for it.

Clan Status:

Unknown. The Sokudo were experimented on during the time of the NCIA. In addition to being removed from public record, vast numbers of Sokudo died during their experimentation, leaving the clan all but forgotten. Those who survived quickly left the country for many reasons, so the Sokudo name is next to anonymity.

Clan Progenitor:

Sokudo Mailei was the first Sokudo to be identified as having the Enhanced Adrenaline they became famous for. They no longer believe, however, that they are the same peoples who were founded so many years ago. They often will refer to "The Speed Force" as the one that created them.

Clan Head:

The Sokudo are infected with wanderlust. They often travel far from each other and have no cohesive whole. As such they've never elected a Clan Head. They prefer to govern themselves, considering their clan's lack of national prestige.

Sokudo Clan History

Of Thugs and Grudges

The Sokudo Clan has endured many evolutions across its time on the earth. Always, they have been known as a people of gifted means. Long before the hidden ninja villages existed, before wars and conflicts broke the land into its individual slices, the Sokudo existed. The Sokudo were found in all corners of the earth, hard workers with a propensity for travel. They were often employed as couriers or merchants, who visited many of the towns of the would-be ninja nations.

And they knew they were special. The Sokudo have always been endowed with the singular gift of unlimited adrenaline. Their muscles never flagged, never grew weak and tired. They could work all day and remain spry as a board. For years they worked and toiled to build their way of life. But of course, those with a gift would indeed flaunt it.

The Sokudo began the first of many dark times in their history. Known for their resilience, and tempered by the arrogant pride of youth, Sokudo men and women would often find themselves being hired as bodyguards or prize fighters. They would hide their identity and compete, knowing they would not tire in a fight. Or they would put their ability to run to more nefarious means. Fighters, thugs, thieves. The Sokudo grew well known and acquired many enemies in their time before the ninja villages.

Until the ninja came.

Those with grudges hired shinobi to kill the arrogant Sokudo, for they were just as mortal as any other. More still were caught during their less legal activities, and were jailed or executed. The Sokudo found themselves besieged on all sides, and with the way their family remained scattered, none of them could lend support. The Sokudo knew their way of life was threatened, and so they retreated, to a storm covered, mountain dotted landscape they knew none would easily pursue them to. They fled to what would one day become Kumogakure no Sato.

Once inside the valleys, obscured from the outside world, the Sokudo found life to make a much more peaceful turn. When everyone shared your gift, there was nothing to be arrogant over. Their constant energy allowed them to swiftly build a small village, sequestered from the public eye. Their enemies slowly began to quit hunting them, either thinking them all deceased, or finding the chase too difficult to continue. The Sokudo lived an isolated but contented existance, raised from birth to remember the persecution raised when they were too arrogant of their ability. For three hundred years, the Sokudo claimed this existence. But few forgot the wanderlust that was their true birthright and the true purpose for their gift.

For those who grew up under the watchful eye of grandparents who had experienced the cruelty of the world, saying in their village was not easy, but was a vigilant task they understood. As generations passed however, it became harder and harder to convince children to stay away from the outside world. Eventually, a child from the village, arrogant as his forefathers with the wanderlust to carry him, snuck away from the village, venturing beyond to see what lay outside their tiny hamlet.

The world had all but forgotten the Sokudo.

He returned and explained that almost none of the people remembered the name of his clan. They were interested to know where he had come from, and to hear about his gifts, but that the special powers of the Sokudo were not the only ones. Other families of strong blood had discovered their own talents. The world the Sokudo had known was gone. Whole wars had been fought in their absence, lines drawn and the world shattered into separate countries. Bewildered by his tale, the Sokudo youth made a mass exodus, venturing into the world as they ought to, visiting the nations again like they had always done. The Sokudo children enrolled in the ninja academies to make use of their skills, where their competitive spirit was relished and natured.

When taught correctly about the manipulation of chakra, the Sokudo realized that by powering their muscles with chakra, they could not only move indefinitely, but they could also accelerate indefinitely. They could move faster and faster, violating the laws of nature. They had limits, to be sure, but in the end, the Sokudo's return to the world granted them their second great evolution, and the beginning of something wonderful.

Lynx and Terminal Velocity

When the NCIA was formed, like many Kumo citizens, the Sokudo happily sent their children to train in this centralized academy. They believed in the good the NCIA wanted to create, and understood the need to have ninja working without boundaries and jurisdiction. That was when Researcher Lynx came into the picture.

After studying the children at the academy, Lynx believed that the Sokudo genes held a lot more potential than they had realized. He believe their gift, their endless adrenaline which enabled their superhuman speed, could be harness or shared, and made to power the entire nation with electrical impulses that would vault the Land of Lightning into a future age. Endless power, endless possibility.

So they agreed.

Lynx's words proved true. He was able to unlock even more power from the Sokudo, removing the limiter that kept their speed in check. They could now literally accelerate endlessly, never reaching a cap. They could outrun the speed of the stars if they chose. They were all powerful. But their bodies were not. In his quest to reach perfection, the scientist had failed to mention that their bodies could withstand such speed. Sokudo ninja who tried to achieve their endless speed burst into flame, dying in painful experiments. As Lynx attempted to harness their powers, his methods grew ever more invasive, ever more insane. He would force Sokudo to run until they died, using their data to try and find a way to harness them for energy. It became clear that Lynx was never going to let the Sokudo leave his facility. They were doomed.

When the war ended and Lynx's laboratory was discovered, very few Sokudo remained alive. Many were burned and scarred as a result of being forced to run too quickly for too long. Many of the Sokudo were broken, no longer fit for much else than to return to their homes and die slowly. Many believed that with so few remaining, and so few of them functional, the Sokudo would die out.

The Lightning Bolt

The only Sokudo left fit for anything were the children. Those who were too young to mold chakra and had not inherited their ability to run yet. Lynx had not pushed them to their limits, and so they remained unbroken. Still, Lynx's change to their gene pool had ensured every Sokudo would be born with the destructive speed and no limiter. Lynx had made sure of that early on. The clan was afraid to run, for fear they would all kill themselves.

Until Sokudo Han.

A survivor of the experimentation, Han was determined to see his clan rise from this defeat. Their history had been marked with persecution, failure, and enemies on all sides, and never had the Sokudo died. So he tried. He ran as fast as he could, every day. He caught on fire a million times or more, sure that he would find a solution. It came to him while being chased by the very men who sought to once use him.

Determined that he could think of no other way to stop his clan from dying out, Han broke into one of Lynx's old research facilities, looking to steal the information which had removed the limiter. If he could again restore such a gene to their pool, keeping the Sokudo from exceeding the speed their bodies could handle, he could save them. He was caught, and he was chased. Han fled for his life, and in his pursuit, his reached the same terminal velocity that had killed so many of his friends and neighbors. Only this time, something was different.

Whether by genetic success after years of failure, or by Han's sheer dumb luck, Han did not burst into flame. He was struck by lightning. OR rather, he created a bolt of lightning. Instead of bursting into flame, Han was able to discharge the excess energy around his body into the ground around him using lightning attuned chakra. The resulting static electricity was great enough to force a bolt of ground lightning to reach heavenward.

The Sokudo evolved again.

By teaching its children how to harness lightning when they reached the age to begin running in earnest, Han was able to devise a way to draw in electrical energy around him, discharging it as he ran as a way to bleed away excess heat and friction as lightning. This allowed them to achieve their endless acceleration without dying. The Sokudo believe Han a savior, though many who survived the experimentation still refused to use this method themselves.

Though their numbers were small, for by this point the clan had a grand total of thirty members, the Sokudo were determined to retake what had been taken from them. Lynx's experiments had nearly killed them, but instead it had made them more powerful than ever. These were not Sokudo who would cower or hide. These, were something else entirely.

Sokudo Cultural Information

Physical Traits

Sokudo Clan members tend to be skinnier than most. They have narrow shoulders and long legs, all geared towards their mobility-based lifestyle. This tends to make the males a little feminine looking, as opposed to the standard idea of a broad shouldered man. Sokudo run the gambit of heights, but tend to favor the extremes, either being very short or very tall. Again, both builds serve to enhance their ability to run in some way.

The most common eye color is green in the Sokudo Clan, but their hair can be any natural color and seems to show no preference. Due to clan fashion and practicality more than anything else, the Sokudo tend to have short hairstyles to keep hair away from their face while running.

Clan Outlook

The Sokudo tend to suffer from wanderlust. They tend to prefer wandering and visiting new places over staying in one location their whole lives. They supported the idea of the NCIA and the freedom a centralized ninja academy would have provided, but obviously disagreed with many of their methods. Sokudo tend to be less patriotic for this fact, since they believe they belong to no single nation.

Many Sokudo also tend to be pranksters. Enhanced speed means they can get away with it more often than not, and the carefree attitude of nearly flying on the ground tends to make it hard for them to take matters seriously. Sokudo can also be impatient, impetuous, and arrogant, though these are not always present in every ninja.

Clan Professions

Their high speed makes Sokudo excellent couriers. They are often used to ferry messages or newspapers if they aren't trained as ninja, and sometimes even if they are. IN addition, their untiring muscles make manual labors more attractive to them. They are often craftsmen, usually of wood or stone, as their labors involve them doing repetitive actions that would tire the muscles of normal people much too quickly.

Sokudo Clan Relations

Fell Clan | Neutral

Aside from general interaction, the Sokudo are unfamiliar with the Fell, and thus they rarely have more the superficial interaction with them.

Nankan Clan | Friendly

The Sokudo can relate with the recessive family in the Nankan Clan. As a people also persecuted and experimented on, the Nankan are no strangers to being hidden away for decades. The Sokudo find a camaraderie with their members.

Saiseki Clan | Kill On Sight

The Saiseki Clan are responsible for the mass capture and murder of the Sokudo people. The clan deserves every ounce of enmity they get.

Sensukai Clan | Friendly

The Sokudo understand the split in the clan, and can relate to a group of people trying to rebuild their image. The actions of the Sensukai have shown that they bear bold, honest souls in addition to the bad, and thus has garnered some measure of respect from the Sokudo.

Soradansu Clan | Enmity

The Soradansu are viewed negatively by the Sokudo. One of the few clans who actually knew that the Sokudo were being experimented upon and murdered, the Soradansu ignored the plight of the Sokudo and left them to rot. While they never directly raised a hand against the Sokudo people, they were implicit by standing by and doing nothing.

I was taking my cue off the "You might as well just update the Sokudo" from skypechat. If you would please make the appropriate thread in staffchat, I would like to formally petition to take the Clan and update it, since it hasn't been touched since '09.
