Kaminari Tainai | 雷体内  | Lightning Body

At the birth of the Sensukai Clan, the Kaminari Tainai was seen as a gift from the god Raijin. A message to those chosen to be part of the Sensukai clan that they were the ones to carry the message of Raijin and spread it to the people around them. This belief has faded over the centuries, with many Sensukai shinobi simply accepting that their bloodline, similar to many bloodlines, was simply a genetic mutation that allowed them to survive the harsh conditions of Kumogakure Storms.  Whichever one may choose to believe, the Kaminari Tainai is a prominent bloodline within the clan that allows one the ability to manipulate and withstand lightning with ease. Since their birth, Sensukai shinobi find it easier to manipulate lightning with their chakra than other shinobi. As they advance in skill and age, their control over the element increases. This also applies to their own physical bodies, as their body develops the ability to withstand and even mold the element within their own chakra. It is this ability that throughout the centuries has given the bloodline the name 'Lightning Body', as those whom have taken it to it's fullest potential are seen to be able to continuously produce lightning from their body. As if they have become their own storm cloud.

Kaminari Tainai - Birth

Since their birth, Sensukai shinobi are affiliated with the element of lightning. Whether the affinity is revealed earlier or later is dependent on the shinobi, however most Sensukai shinobi show proficiency in control and manipulation of lightning with relative ease. Those who continue to proceed down the path of lightning manipulation are seen as maters of the element, becoming a destructive force of nature themselves.

Effect: A character with this skill gains 'Lightning Specialty', as a primary or secondary elemental specialty. This is chosen upon purchasing this skill; a character that already has both elemental specialties unlocked does not gain this effect. In addition, a character with this skill may purchase two ranks of  'Ninjutsu Mastery: Lightning' for 1 skill point.

Cost: -2sp | Must be taken at character creation or upon bloodline transfusion.

Kaminari Tainai - Lightning Rod
The evolution of the Kaminari Tainai has led to a strong resistance against the lightning element. Acting as natural lightning rods, their body absorbs the lightning with ease and directly discharges it towards the ground in order to minimize the amount of damage done.
Effects: A character with this skill gains x 'Lightning Mark'. Where x is equal to the character's ninja rank {Gennin: 1, Chuunin: 2, Jounin: 3, Sennin: 4). Any time a character takes physical damage from a [Lightning] element technique reduce the damage by 25x, to a minimum of 5.

Cost: -3sp

Kaminari Tainai - Lightning Rod Absorption

The human body is adaptable and resilient. This is no exception when it comes to Sensukai shinobi, as their body adapts to the incoming lightning that flows through them. The more damage they take from lightning techniques, the more resilient their body becomes to the damage. It is often that Sensukai shinobi are seen to plunge head first into a lightning technique and continue forward without losing momentum.

Effects: Each time a character with this skill takes damage from a [Lightning] element technique they gain an additional 'Lightning Mark'. The number of 'Lightning Marks' a character has may not exceed ten (10).

Cost: -2sp. Kaminari Tainai - Lightning Rod.

Kaminari Tainai - Living Battery
The body of a Sensukai clan shinobi is different than that of the average shinobi. The natural resistance towards the lightning element is not the only ability of the Kaminari Tainai, as the bloodline and the genetic make-up of the Sensukai extend further as it reacts with any lightning particles within the area. As lightning techniques are used throughout the battle, leftover lightning particles are broken down and absorbed by the body. These particles are stored separately within the body in specialized cells and similar to a battery, the wielder is able to release the stored lightning and utilize it in whatever manner they wish.
Effect: The wielder of this skill gains a separate stat known as 'Static Energy'. 'Static Energy' starts at 0. For each rank in this skill: Every time the wielder of this skill uses a [Lightning] element technique or is hit by a [Lightning] element technique, 10% of the technique's base cost is added as Static Energy into the Static Energy stat. Static Energy gained this way can be used to pay for basic attacks, weapon attacks, and skills or techniques that would require either chakra or stamina to use. Ranks may only be taken every 20 levels. Static Energy statistic can not exceed 50% of the user's total chakra statistic.
Ranks: 3
Cost: -2sp per rank. Level 10

Kaminari  Tainai - Lightning Reservoir
Gifted with their body's genetic ability to store lightning within specialized cells, Sensukai shinobi are able to capitalize on their own power. As all cells make energy, these specialized cells will produce their own supply of lightning and store it within them. Unlike the natural metabolic energy produced within the cells, the lightning produced takes a while to be restored once used. In addition, with the constant use of their own internal lightning, it is quite common for Sensukai shinobi to use this lightning within their techniques to add extra strength.
Effect: At the beginning of each battle, a character with this skill begins the battle with x 'Static Energy' in their Static Energy Statistic. [x = 15% of the user's base chakra statistic].
Requirements: Rank III of Kaminari Tainai - Living Battery
Cost: -1sp

Kaminari Tainai - Raijin's Messenger

Old Sensukai folklore describe the Kaminari Tainai, as a gift from Raijin to deliver his judgement onto those unworthy. The lightning stored within their body was a signal that they had the power to choose whom to punish in the name of justice. While this belief has faded (for the most part), the lightning stored within a Sensukai's body can be used to increase the potential of their lightning techniques.

Effect: Once per turn when performing a Main Phase [Lightning] element technique, the user may pay 10X Static Energy to increase the critical chance of the technique by +X%. This ability may not break the maximum chance to critical hit.

Cost: -2sp. Rank II of Kaminari Tainai - Living Battery

Resubbing the bloodline due to changes with Elemental Shield. Bloodline has been altered to incorporate several Sensukai skills that were made throughout the years as an effort to consolidate everything. I feel this suits the bloodline better and makes it more centralized.

Okay, honestly I think all of this is pretty fine to stamp and move ahead, there's just one little bit that bothers me. You shouldn't be able to change an elemental speciality you already have unlocked and trained for in my mind, especially since lightning speciality, at least based off the bloodline here, is largely thematic and not at all mandatory for the clan's mechanics. I think swapping it in at character creation is a good move, gives people direction in their build. For a transfer though, I kinda feel like just subbing one you rolled and didn't like out for lightning which you may have wanted isn't great, especially since there's theoretically nothing to stop someone transfusing this, getting the lightning they wanted, then transfusing it away and by then it's kinda too late to take that back, since why it swapped what the core speciality was, it doesn't change that they trained and earned it legitimately outside of the bloodline.

If you can slap off some kind of restriction which means if someone transfuses this for lightning at sennin, they're slapping themselves with tertius to claim it, and I'm fairly happy with it overall.

Hmm, I see. Alright, I added in a clause that states that 'a character with all their elemental specialty unlocked does not gain the effect.' So if they already have two elemental specialties, they don't get lightning.

Yup I'm okay with this now.

Approved.

Edit on 7/6/19 to upgrade to a mod+ stamp.

Edited again on 20/12/19: Almonds requested some relatively minor wording changes conditional to her overall approval. If her wording is adopted and nothing else changes, my approval stands.

If you go through and tweak Birth like she suggested, adding a new effect, then we will revist.

Birth:

You can replace the limit to pre-choosing whether Lightning Specialty is the primary or secondary Elemental Specialty with something like, “If the user qualifies for an Elemental Specialty, they may choose to gain Lightning Specialty instead of rolling for one.” This doesn’t limit it to having to be the first or second specialty, if for some reason a Lightning specialist doesn’t want Lightning Specialty ASAP and has Elementalist or another ability that grants Specialties, putting the skill on the same level as Selective Elements

You’re overpaying a bit for this part, I’d say: “In addition, a character with this skill may purchase two ranks of  'Ninjutsu Mastery: Lightning' for 1 skill point.” Every Elemental bloodline gives this for free with their Element, in addition to skipping the Element’s prerequisites. I don’t see any reason that you shouldn’t get that benefit for free too. I think you should either reduce the cost to -1 or to give this another effect to push it up to -2. Letting people skip training for Lightning Specialty is thematic and would probably be enough.

But even if you don't want to buff it up a little, this is approved.

Lightning Rod:

This is perfectly fine. Approved.

Lightning Rod; Absorption:

This is also good. Approved.

Living Battery:

A Chakra-focused character would probably have between 1,800 and 2,200 Chakra end-game, which would leave a character with this with between 900 and 1,100 maximum Static Energy. That puts it right in the vicinity of other tank-stat boosting clan and bloodline skills*, which cap out at 1,000. This can technically allow the user's maximum Static Energy to grow ever onwards, well past 1,000. But I think that is fine, because I'm pretty sure that Static Energy is supposed to start at 0. The stat doesn't regenerate on its own either, so it's not like having a very high maximum Static Energy will be as helpful as, say, your normal Chakra being increased by half its value.

I think this effect is good. My only request here is that you make the skill state that you begin at 0 Static Energy. Lightning Reservoir is why I know that it is supposed to, so that's a little unclear.

You can also remove the ability to spend Static Energy on Weapon Attacks, if you want. It's a little superfluous now, because every Weapon Attack is either a Basic Attack or a technique.

*Reference: Mokuton’s Mokuton Vitality, Toppajo Fuin’s Yokusei Fuin; Haki, the Lee Clan’s Springtime of Youth!, the Uzumaki Clan’s Uzumaki Life-Force, and the Aburame Clan’s Internal Infestation Contract and Extra Queen skills (though the Aburame skills cap out at 900 pseudo-Chakra instead of 1,000 like the rest).

Lightning Reservoir:

Assuming a maximum of 1,800 to 2,200 Chakra this lets you start with between 270 and 330 instead of 0. It’s basically letting you start with one turn of pre-regenerated Chakra, if you have Chakra Flow 2 (or three without Advanced Regeneration). I think this is fine. Approved.

Raijin’s Messenger:

I think this is fine. I’ve reworded it to simplify the effect, but it has my approval either way:

“Once per turn when performing a Main Phase [Lightning] element technique, the user may pay 10X Static Energy to increase the critical chance of the technique by +X%. This ability may not break the maximum chance to critical hit.”
