cntrstrk14 Posted October 28, 2011 Posted October 28, 2011 Spiritual remake of the pwnz's long outdated The Way Alone. I've often criticized skills like this because it is against the point of the EXP bonus, but with the recent changes to the training system so that this does not literally multiply bonuses I see it as being much more acceptable. This will be for general use with my permission, as I want to make sure that characters who are learning it fit the personality required. P.S. - Better name suggested appreciated. The Way Alone Description: This character works best when they are on their own and has trouble concentrating on their training when they are around others. This could be because they are afraid of what others think of them, have trouble focusing on their own development when surrounded by others, or that they just plain don't trust other people. Whatever the cause, this character learns faster when left alone and will actually suffer when being taught by others. Effect: The user gains +1 EXP per line when training alone for each rank in this skill. May not break the maximum EXP per line for the user's level. If the user would gain bonuses from others during training, instead they gain no bonuses; including from this skill. The user still gives EXP bonuses to others. Requirements: Gifted+ Death Bonus Ranks: 2 Cost: -1
Warr Posted October 28, 2011 Posted October 28, 2011 'Serenity of Solitude' 'Lone Ranger' (*Ducks from the shots of that one*), uh something else? 'Walking the Way Alone' also strikes me as vaguely good. Statistic questioning: Does the user still provide a bonus EXP wise to those who are training around them/with them?
Maelstrom Posted October 29, 2011 Posted October 29, 2011 (edited) I actually made that skill for Pwnz back in the day. The name came from the title of a book that dealt with solo-training in the martial arts. I thought it was appropriate. Edit: Also, why the Gifted+ requirement? Seems to me like anyone who prefers solitude over the alternative would benefit from this skill. Doesn't seem like it should require anything else. Edited October 29, 2011 by Maelstrom
Warr Posted October 29, 2011 Posted October 29, 2011 I myself was wondering on the gifted requirement too, it really seemed a tad bit unnecessary.
Leon Posted October 29, 2011 Posted October 29, 2011 I agree with Mael on the gifted requirement, my only question is if they do not get the bonus when another PLAYER is involved in a thread or if concerns even an NPC that is around the user's character? In other words can an npc in the topic take away the user's bonus i guess?
cntrstrk14 Posted October 29, 2011 Author Posted October 29, 2011 The thought on the gifted+ is two fold, but I am not too terribly attached to it. 1.) RP - A person who is gifted+ death bonus would be more perceptive of themselves and have more latent "natural" talent to build off without the help of others. 2.) Mechanics - I did not want this skill to become rampant in the system as I still very much believe in training with others and wanted some basis other than "too many people have it" when I am asked if people can use this. This way it guarantees a person can only have one of their possible characters know this skill. Alternatively I can just raise the cost of each rank to -2... I may want to do both, haha. @Warr - They would still give EXP bonuses, they would just not receive them. I don't want this skill to punish other players, and just because someone doesnt learn in groups doesn't mean others can't learn from them. If they gave no EXP bonus there would be no reason for them ever to train in groups. @Leon - I don't understand your question, can you rephrase?
Warr Posted October 29, 2011 Posted October 29, 2011 (edited) --- Will be here shortly, MSN'd. Edited October 29, 2011 by Warr
Leon Posted October 29, 2011 Posted October 29, 2011 I mean if the user of the skill is training by themselves can they have npc's in their topic? If they did have npcs would their training alone bonus be taken away? Or does that only apply when the user of the skill is actually being taught by an outside source (moderator, admin, other player)
cntrstrk14 Posted October 30, 2011 Author Posted October 30, 2011 Edited a bit to be more clear. You would only lose the bonus when you would otherwise gain a bonus. SO if there happens to be an NPC nearby who is not training with you, no you would not lose the bonus.
Warr Posted October 30, 2011 Posted October 30, 2011 I still think the DB Req is unnecessary, but whatever. Approved.
Leon Posted October 31, 2011 Posted October 31, 2011 Why not just make the skill useable once per account or something
K Mitsuhide Posted October 31, 2011 Posted October 31, 2011 (edited) The death bonus pretty much makes it that way. Since only one of your characters can have a death bonus at a time, as well as the fact that there is an RP element to this skill, it makes gives it a fairly good restriction. I'm more than willing to bet that there will only be a couple of people out there with this skill. Edited October 31, 2011 by K Mitsuhide
