Cellar Door Posted November 18, 2014 Posted November 18, 2014 (edited) Oh look, I'm here to make Shunshin conform with new RPJ rules. So, here we have some new and improved techniques, which I'd like to go on the Main Site. • Shunshin No Jutsu | Body Flicker Technique | 瞬身の術 Type: Ninjutsu-Taijutsu [Void | Style-Less | Response | Evolving ] Rank: Genin Cost: 40 Chakra; 40 Stamina Effect: This technique may only be used in the Response Phase and is done before any Dodge rolls. The user of this technique gains +10% to dodge during the Response Phase that this technique is used. This technique must be referenced in the dodge roll that it is affecting. The user of this technique loses their Set-Up Phase on the turn this technique is used. This technique has a 15% chance to fail per rank of the unresolved attack when performed. This technique may be performed 2 times per battle. Description: One of the basic techniques taught to most students during their time at the academy. The Body Flicker Technique is considered an extremely versatile ability, and is one of the most widely used general shinobi skills. The jutsu itself is a high-speed movement ability that uses chakra to temporarily vitalize the body, allowing movement that is nearly untraceable to the naked eye. The user often disappears from the field of their opponent’s vision in a puff of smoke, as a means to further distract their path of escape. Though Shunshin has many applications, its most common use is in evading hazardous attacks. Points: 5 JP • Shunshin No Jutsu | Body Flicker Technique | 瞬身の術 Type: Ninjutsu-Taijutsu [Void | Style-Less | Response | Evolving ] Rank: Chūnin Cost: 75 Chakra; 75 Stamina Effect: This technique may only be used in the Response Phase and is done before any Dodge rolls. The user of this technique gains +20% to dodge during the Response Phase that this technique is used. This technique must be referenced in the dodge roll that it is affecting. Hardcore Skittlez Posted November 25, 2014 Posted November 25, 2014 Genin and Chuunin lose their Main Phases. Jounin should only cost 100 and 100. And.. What's with the funky fail chances?
Cellar Door Posted December 11, 2014 Author Posted December 11, 2014 I'll give up the Set-Up Phase at most. But the scaling fail chance is there so that I don't have to give up the Main Phase.
Rhap Sodos Posted December 11, 2014 Posted December 11, 2014 This technique may only be performed in the Response Phase and is considered a Free Action when performed. Is this line necessary? If a technique is tagged as a response phase do we need to specify that it can only be used in the Response Phase? I'm also not sure if I want to start throwing in "free action" stuff (at least in writing) on main phase techniques, even if we have to make it a bit more verbose "User may still roll to dodge when this technique is used.) I also think that it should stipulate that you must mention the technique when making the dodge roll, otherwise they'll just save their uses for when they know they have to use them. As for the "scaling chance", using the mainsite guidelines (Sennin: - 75% chance to fail: May use Main Phase Action.) even if they are not auto-dodges, I think the chance to fail needs to be a lot higher. +30 to your dodge roll with only a 5% chance to fail is nuts, and I agree with Skittz that the lower level ones (Academy and Gennin at least) should have you lose your Main Phase regardless.
Cellar Door Posted December 23, 2014 Author Posted December 23, 2014 (edited) I always stipulate which face something is used in at the start of the technique if it's not exclusive to the main phase, and I changed the Free Action thing, though it sees enough use that it may as well be in the glossary. I also think that it should stipulate that you must mention the technique when making the dodge roll, otherwise they'll just save their uses for when they know they have to use them. I'm not sure what you're saying here. It sounds extremely meta, if I'm even understanding it a little bit. Alright, so I changed 2 big things about this aside from taking out the phrase 'free action'. The technique no longer applies a +xx% dodge bonus for the whole phase, and instead gives a +xx% dodge bonus against the first unresolved attack. Then I also changed the way the fail chances work. Now, if you are using the academy version, and somebody uses an academy/genin tech it'll have a 20% chance to fail. If they use a Sennin tech, it'll have an 80% chance to fail. I think making the lower levels lose the main phase makes them absolutely worthless. Nobody would trade a main phase for +5%-10% to dodge. But I think with the tweak to their fail chances, they're... more fair? Edited December 23, 2014 by Cellar Door
Kouta Posted January 16, 2015 Posted January 16, 2015 I can't deny the main site rules, which specifically include "jutsu that increase the chance to dodge/block." It also includes that you lose the set-up and main phase when using genin/chunin/jounin jutsu. HOWEVER, given that "jutsu that do not negate have no fail chance" and these have rather moderate fail chances when faced against other jutsu of their own rank, I'm willing to overlook this to some extent. How bout we meet in the middle, and say that you have a chance to fail, and a chance to lose the main phase, if you successfully body flicker?
Cellar Door Posted January 16, 2015 Author Posted January 16, 2015 The problem is that we don't have a standard value for what techniques like this should do. I talk to Tony, and he looked at these and said that he thought they were fine. I'd like not have to add the loss of a phase, and if I have to include the chance of losing a phase, then I don't think having the sizeable fail chances are even worth it.
cntrstrk14 Posted March 7, 2015 Posted March 7, 2015 Okay, we hammered out the details of these type of techniques. Here are my notes on the above. - Because of the increase chance to fail per rank this gets a -20 DP cost. - Because of the increase chance to fail, gets a -10 DP cost and Setup Phase access. - Third one is 100% by the books.
Cellar Door Posted March 7, 2015 Author Posted March 7, 2015 I rehosted the gif so that it wouldn't break in the future. No other changes. May need another round of approvals.
