The Mighty Forest Begins With A Single Seed
[Clan History and Information]

Flowers.jpg

An old family, the Hanamajo keep to themselves for the most part, which means that they aren't very well known. However, if ever in Suna and you were to eat a particularly fresh fruit or a vivid vegetable that tastes just slightly better than any other of its kind, then you have experienced the handiwork of the Hanamajo. Aptly named as Suna's Flower Witches, The Hanamajo have a knack for gardening and farming. Anything that has to do with the growing of plants of any type, the Hanamajo are masters of it.

The clan, before it was in fact a clan, were a single family of farmers who struggled with poverty. With only enough food to barely sustain themselves, they were beset by a rogue band of shinobi. The missing-nins bullied them into supporting three more mouths. This put a strain on the farming family. For months, they were too frightened to do anything but obey the powerful oppressors. Already limited food sources became even more depleted with the gluttonous shinobi gorging themselves on the family's wonderful food. The horrible conditions persisted for too long, the mother of the family had been forgoing her own meager portions of food to make sure her two children were fed. After three weeks of starvation, the mother passed away, and the family snapped. The father was enraged at the shinobi for forcing his wife to starve while they ate the food that she worked hard to grow. In a fit of rage, he took up one of his sharp scythes used for harvesting wheat, and tried to attack one of the ninja. The altercation lasted only moments before the father was in a bloody heap on the ground, barely alive. It seemed as though the family would never be rid of the plight. The grandmother of the family, the most educated in the way of plants and farming, nursed her son back to health with medicines she grew herself. She also concocted a plan, and a poison. She created a deadly poison made from one her many edible plants. It only needed to be prepared in a specific way to become a toxin that could easily kill a man by sunrise. That's exactly what it did, except with three men. By slipping the poison into the food that the Shinobi had taken from them, they had unwittingly eaten themselves to death.

From that point on, the family learned how to heal and harm with plants just as much as they learned how to grow and care for them. When the youngest child had reached a proper age, he proclaimed his intentions of becoming a shinobi so that he would be able to help support his family. Equipped with the knowledge of his family's poisons, he became a deadly assassin and protected his country as best he could. He was nicknames the Flower Witch because of his odd affinity for using plant element chakra. He would seemingly magically summon plants to battle that would attack on his behalf with poisons and deadly thorns. The original Hanamajo shinobi, who died at the age of 63, is the father of Hanamajo Miyabita, the modern day leader of the Hanamajo clan. With 74 years of life experience and 62 years of shinobi experience, she is a wise and effective leader. While she seems rather blunt and uncaring, she is a woman with a golden heart and green thumb. In modern times, the Hanamajo have become a successful family of grocers and a strong family of shinobi as well. Their advances in the fields of Medicine, Poison and Antidotes have helped further many of the shinobi techniques utilized by the ninjas of Suna.

The Most Beautiful Flower, Often Has The Sharpest Thorns
[Appearance, Clothing, Traditions and Morals]

Blue_Flowers.jpg

The Hanamajo clan aren't easily distinguishable by some odd genetic mutation as is the case with most other clans. They look completely normal with little in the way of similarities. All shades of hair from the most vivid of blonde to the darkest hues of purple and black, they are just like flowers in the sense that they can look like just about anything with just about any color. The only thing that seems to appear within every Hanamajo is the emerald green irises. As far as clothing goes, the Hanamajo wear whatever is comfortable, but they are never afraid of getting dirty.

As a family of farmers, the Hanamajo often celebrate during the Autumn and Winter Solstices by throwing a large feast and live music. It is not uncommon for a few members of the clan utter a prayer to the God of Harvests in hopes of a lush haul. Other important dates land on or around the beginning of each season. In Spring, the Hanamajo gift each other with small trinkets of sentiment as a time of remembrance and appreciation. In Summer, the clan gathers in order to hold a ritualistic pyre in which an offering of their best products are given to the ancestors long since past. Other things offered include photographs, personal belongings, hand made gifts, and money.

As a whole, the family of the Hanamajo have similar views. They are a kind caring clan who would fight to the death to protect their country, but would rather not be in the lime light. However, like with every family, one ideal is not shared by the whole. Despite near unending argument about which practice is more useful and powerful, healing or poisoning, the Flower Witches are quick to forgive, but necessarily forget. However, nearly all share the mentality that a threat or attack against one, is an attack against all. In this way, they are a force to be reckoned with and they will not be easy to forgive a malicious wrong doing.
