Ravage Nocturne
Inspired by Ayame; the winner can't win anything but respect, per se, unless a mod or admin wishes to create a small prize lot #1. Pushing through the ocean's waves Onward shalt the ships sail, legends forgotten on these unpredictible currents Stormy waves and ghostly voices break the fatiguing spirits Eternity so close to grasp but far from reach Indefinite wishes not yet granted; storms continue on Death close to those who perish slowly, seeking no penance for ignorant sins Onward shalt the souls sail, legends forgotten of this incomprehensible lore Neverending torture wreaking havoc on the sinful shores Teehee, giggle-giggle. Have fun with this one kiddos. No hints provided. Take your time and figure it out D:

PhantasyIV
I'm thinking something a little more Helenistic: Ulysses or Jason and the Argonauts
Guest Freelancer
First thing I thought about when I read it is that pirates of the carribean movie....

Jake
Its most def. foreshadowing to people in a boat when the hurricane hits Florida. A boat of immoral sinners in a cult who worship sharks and jelly fish.
Ravage Nocturne
Yipes, things are getting really off. Here's a small hint: It pertains to the ocean by some degree.....I'll give a HUGE hint later
Jake
Charybdis' gaping oceanic hole? Something to do with Posidon's wrath?
Ravage Nocturne
Getting warmer...actually, VERY warm on one of your guesses (NOTE-This has now been noted to have a $50 reward) EDIT: It's not enough to find out what the riddle is about. NO credit will be given until you find that, and the HINT the riddle gives! You'll need to apply higher levels of reading skills to obtain this information. It is not enough to see face value of things Edited June 12, 2005 by Ravage Nocturne

Ravage Nocturne
The sirens perhaps. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Incorrect (Though this would technically be a good means of applying said creature...but alas, this is not the meaning)
Jake
Heh I already tried that.
PhantasyIV
Attempt the second: I want to think something about the water nymphs (which syprisingly we named the moons of Jupiter, I believe, after some of). I'm also thinking of the kraken, but that doesn't have to do with the second stanza. EDIT: Amphitrite was one of said water nymphs, the wife of Poseiden (forgot to put in a very relevant part of my logic) Edited June 12, 2005 by PhantasyIV

PhantasyIV
Darn. This isn't about the hydra (A little too much God of War for someone? Eh?) Oh well. I'll think a little more and get back.
Ravage Nocturne
Still wrong, friends. Aether IS very, VERY close; all he needs to do is figure out what he is right about, and find the reasoning behind it. I will not count a win until someone 'reads between the lines' and finds the all-too-important clue hidden within the riddle itself!
PhantasyIV
I know it's wrong but I keep thinking of the Iliad where Poseiden is punishing Ulysses for blinding his cyclops son. The whole "wandering the stormy seas and theoretically never supposed to be able to go home" deal.

PhantasyIV
I'ts Poseiden. JUST Poseiden. The first letter of every line, from up to down spells poseiden.

It is not enough to read each word....Read between the lines; the second level of thinking (Inferential) Aether, would you please bestow upon this fortuneate one $50 EDIT: Time for #2 #2. Gnawed, chewed, ripped, broken, and battered. Cut, removed and reborn, and overlooked. I am alive, yet I do not breathe. I am alive, yet I do not live. I have no life of my own, but my symbiotic relationship causes me to thrive. Defenses build with parasitic leeching. Resistances formed with absorption. Strong as flexible, alive as dead, resistant as fragile. I am that which is in visible sight, yet often times looked past. I give protection to my host, and it to me.
