Hyōi Gattai | Possession Coalescence | 憑依合体

 

From birth most members of the Abe clan are born with a strong sixth sense. They all, upon hitting ‘adulthood' are tattooed by the lead Shamans with a mark of two fish, a blue one, and a white one, circling each other like yin and yang. The tattoo is a symbol of the member's ability to synchronize with a spirit and for the two to reach coexistence, and some argue is the source of their strength and a point of their unity as a clan.

At a young age, members of this clan will become aware of spirits around them, whether it be sounds they can hear or flickering of images in the corner of the eye, or the dark of the night. At first, many are afraid from these new experiences, but soon they become a natural occurrence that they come to ignore or become fascinated by. And so is the childhood of members of the clan until they reach ‘adulthood' which comes at many different ages, but for many around the age of twelve or higher. At this time the placement of the tattoo commences, but during the same ritual the clan member is put into a deep trance and what is called as the ‘Earth Bound' ritual is preformed. It is during this state of trance that the elder shaman helps the young clan member to find their spirit partner, and after finding them they immediately awake and are aware of the name of their spirit. There are a few cases in which a clan member is unable to form a connection and finish the ritual, and though they may be ashamed, it has been accepted by the clan as something that happens every so often.

If the member has passed their right of passage they will find that at first they are unable to control the spirit, but at the same time the spirit is unable to fully take over or control the user. Though characteristics of the two may blend, the spirit's feelings or personalities bleeding into the everyday life of the clan member, the two remain separate. After some time though, the clan member will be able to feel control over their spirit, and they can begin what is called (Mask of Spirits). The eyes of the mask, the most striking aspect of the bloodline itself visually, are an unnatural blue color with a golden pupil.

Spirit Bond
Upon receiving Mask of Spirits Rank 0, the character is able to create their own Spirit and place it on their character sheet. We suggest a post just for the spirit sheet to be placed, more than likely entitled ‘Spirit'. However the exact placement and style is up to the user as long as the information is there. The spirit itself cannot fight, but has its own stats, techniques, and skills that are then accessed by the character through the use of branches of this bloodline. See the below section "Creating Your Spirit" for more information.

A Spirit must have been a living being that at one point lived a normal life. It does not necessarily have to be a human, though the permission of the clan head will be needed for non human Spirit creations. An animal may be used in place of a human, but it must have reached some kind of sentience through its own death and life as a spirit. This means that in its normal living life, it would have been a simple, regular part of its species, but upon death it was able to form thoughts and communicate with those that obtained a strong sixth sense.

 

Mask of Spirits
This ability is the synchronization of a clan member and their spirit. The first level involves little or no control over the spirit, but with time the clan member learns to tap into the power of their spirit through the use of the Mask of Spirits. The mask first appears as about a quarter of the face, usually starting from the forehead and moving down over one of the eyes, but not necessarily, each clan member has a slightly different effect. As they progress through power and obtain more and more of the spirit's abilities, the mask grows in size until it covers the entire face of the clan member. This is the final form of the bloodline and what all clan members seek to attain, as it signifies complete unity with their spirit.


Activation Cost: 10% Chakra to activate; 5% Chakra upkeep
This is an Advanced System
All advanced Chakra & Stamina regeneration abilities are suspended.

Ranks do not overwrite each other, but do not stack.

A character may choose to activate any rank that they own.

Ranks must be purchased in order.

 

Rank 0: The user may obtain a spirit and add it to their character sheet as well as have access to all clan jutsu. The character is unable to control the spirit, and at times will have the personality and emotions of the spirit spill into their own, causing them to act as they may not normally.
Requirement: Level 0
Cost: -1

Rank 1: User gains 25% of spirit's stats, stacked upon their own. Stat addition may surpass 1.5x for the stat it is effecting, but cannot go beyond 1.5x of the highest stat the character has. All stats are rounded up.
Requirement: Level 10
Cost: -1

Rank 2: User gains 50% of spirit's stat, stacked upon their own. Stat addition may surpass 1.5x for the stat it is effecting, but cannot go beyond 1.5x of the highest stat the character has. Does not stack with previous ranks. All stats are rounded up.
Requirement: Chuunin, Level 30
Cost: -2

Rank 3: User gains 75% of spirit's stat, stacked upon their own. Stat addition may surpass 1.5x for the stat it is effecting, but cannot go beyond 1.5x of the highest stat the character has. Does not stack with previous ranks. All stats are rounded up.
Requirement: Jounin, Level 50
Cost: -2

Rank 4: User gains 100% of spirit's stat, stacked upon their own. Stat addition may surpass 1.5x for the stat it is effecting, but cannot go beyond 1.5x of the highest stat the character has. Does not stack with previous ranks. After use of this skill the user must roll a d2. If the result is a one (1) they must spend one week (real time) and one day (character time) in the hospital after the battle due to strain. Once deactivated, Mask of Spirits; Rank 4 may not be activated again for one day (character time).
Requirement: Jounin, Level 70
Cost: -2

Mastery: The user no longer has a chance of a hospital stay when using Mask of Spirits Rank 4.
Requirement: Sennin, Level 100
Cost: -1
 
Assimilation of the Spirit; Gear One
- Techniques must be approved by clan head and should fit the theme of your spirit.
- A single Spirit Techniques can never be used two turns in a row.
- All reduced costs are rounded up.

Rank 1: Upon activation of the ‘Mask of Spirits; Rank 1' or higher the user may use the Chuunin Rank technique available to their spirit at 90% cost. May only access this technique while ‘Mask of Spirits' is activated.
Requirement: Mask of Spirits Rank 1; Level 15
Cost: -1

Rank 2: Upon activation of the ‘Mask of Spirits' or higher the user may use the Jounin Rank technique available to their spirit at 90% cost. In addition, Chuunin Rank spirit technique cost is reduced to 75%. May only access these techniques while ‘Mask of Spirits' is activated.
Requirement: Mask of Spirits Rank 2; Level 35
Cost: -1

Rank 3: Upon activation of the ‘Mask of Spirits' or higher the user may use the Sennin Rank technique available to their spirit at 90% cost. In addition, Jounin Rank spirit technique cost is reduced to 75%. Chuunin Rank spirit technique cost is reduced to 50%. May only access these techniques while ‘Mask of Spirits' is activated.
Requirement: Mask of Spirits Rank 3; Level 55
Cost: -1

Rank 4: While ‘Mask of Spirits' is active the Sennin Rank spirit technique cost is reduced to 75% cost. Jounin Rank spirit technique cost is reduced to 50%. Chuunin Rank spirit technique cost is reduced to 50%. May only access these techniques while ‘Mask of Spirits' is activated.
Requirement: Mask of Spirits Rank 4; Level 75

Assimilation of the Spirit; Gear Two
- Skills must be approved by clan head and should fit the theme of your spirit.
- The skill sets must have a total cost of at most -2, -4 and -6 respectively.

Rank 1: Upon activation of the ‘Mask of Spirits' the user gains access to the first set of skills of the Spirit (-2 cost total). May only access these skills while ‘Mask of Spirits' is activated.
Requirement: Mask of Spirits Rank 2; Level 20
Cost: -1

Rank 2: Upon activation of the ‘Mask of Spirits' the user gains access to the second set of skills of the Spirit (-4 cost total). May only access these skills while ‘Mask of Spirits' is activated.
Requirement: Mask of Spirits Rank 3; Level 40

Creating Your Spirit

 

When a member of the Abe clan gains access to the Spirit Mask skill they also gain access to their Spirit. Creating a spirit is an easy process that involves filling out the below sheet and adding it to your character sheet. Follow the following guidelines to help make the most effective spirit that you can!

 

- All stats must be placed when the spirit is created. Be careful, these stats cannot be changed!

- A spirit has three skill sets which are accessed through 'Assimilation of the Spirit; Gear Two'. A skill set is a set of skills that total no more than the total cost of that set. For instance, the first Skill Set has a total of -2 SP. That means it can either be one -2 SP skill or two -1 SP skills.

- A skill set may not have Hindering skills in it.

- All skills in a skill set must be clearly labeled as to what set they belong.

- A spirit knows three techniques; 1 Chuunin, 1 Jounin, and 1 Sennin.

- These techniques follow the normal rules for techniques of those levels and may not be Forbidden.

- All skills and techniques for a spirit must be approved by the clan head.

- Skills and techniques for a spirit do not need to be created until the user has access to them. For instance, a player may choose to not decide what their Sennin level technique does until they obtain Rank 3 of 'Assimilation of the Spirite; Gear 1'.

- Names changed from Occhi Blue to Hyōi Gattai.
- Made it so the spirit no longer levels up. Spirit's stats stay static and the amount the user can pull levels up instead.
- Reduced the cost of Mask of Spirits Rank 5 from -3 to -2 because of reduction.

- Mastery rank added to Mask of Spirits.

- Adjusted the skills portion to be a set of skills that cost up to -2, -4 and -6 rather than single skills.

- Adjusted level requirements for Gear Two.

My only issues so far with this are as follows:

-- For what reason do you get to break the 1.5x cap on stat raises? So far only The Sokudo and the Celestial Gates get to do it. Sokudo can only do it for a single stat, and the Celestial Gates are, well, the Gates. So, why, in addition to having a stat boost they can completely mold to their choosing, do they also get to ignore the stat ruling?

-- For the same sort of grievance, cost reduction caps at 50%. For what special purpose do the Occhi Blue get to use their Chunnin Jutsu at 25% cost? Why not just cap it at 50%, and have both Chunnin and Jounin at 50%?

  1. The breaking of the 1.5x cap is a core of the bloodline abilities. The spirit may be proficient in things that the character is not, and part of the strength of this bloodline is having access to that flexibility where you can have a second play style that only occurs when you have the Spirit Mask activated. The purpose of the 1.5x rule is two fold. The first is to prevent a character from gaining a ridiculous amount of stats beyond their level without needing stack. This is a power concern and is still addressed by being capped at 1.5x your largest stat. The second concern is flexibility, where allowing any ability to break this 1.5x of a stat allows a Ninjutsu stacker to activate an advanced system and suddenly become a Genjutsu stacker. Like Yokai (which breaks the 1.5x caps in this exact same way) this bloodline gives access to one different build. The important part is that this character must decide that build well in advance and removes the choice for them to 'get stronger' in their primary build if they decide to be more flexible.

  2. The real answer is because this bloodline predates the cost changes. I'm fine with capping it at 50% and will do that, it's largely irrelevant overall.

Had to move this back. I don't feel right approving it since Tony is putting me in charge of the clan for this thing, might seem like bias or something.

Notice for Artificers; All creations need at least 1 moderator approval. Status Effects require an admin as well.
