Clan Progenitor:

Sarutobi Sasuke

Clan Head:

Sarutobi Jenoba

Clan Status:

Famous; This family is one of the most known and noble clans of the village. With all their favored politicians and Kage, there is hardly a foul word to be said for the Sarutobi. It is one of the most influential families in Konoha from its birth to the current age. Although they lack a bloodline, they are not to be taken lightly, as there was a reason their names are plastered in the texts of The Twelve Guardian Ninja. They are strong devotees of the Will of Fire.

Clan Age:

Old; The Sarutobi clan is a clan that holds authenticity and history in the ninja realm. It is certainly far from a newly established clans, as it is one of the oldest and among the first to be established in Konohagakure no Sato. Hardly heard of before the onset of shinobi villages, after their settling in the Village Hidden in the Leaves (and separating from the Senju banner) they began to flourish with ease. It's not common to believe that if there was a clan to succeed Konohagakure no Sato, it would be the Sarutobi.

uO4jDN6.png Clan History:

HkswFEF.gif

The Sarutobi and the Leaf are like bread and butter. They compliment each other in many more ways than are describable. They were originally a clan of samurai offering their services to the Daimyo and to nobly protect the peace and welfare of any person in need of them. Even today, the classic Saruutobi battle armor it idolized and used, and really still is protective and not out of date. When Senju Hashimara came to the Sarutobi of old, with convincing conviction of an idealistic, central home for shinobi. An organized unit of protection, to end the warring clans and feudal lords. Sarutobi Sasuke, the young heir to the Sarutobi family agreed and his family flew the Senju banner.

Sasuke would give birth to a son, Hiruzen, who would be the pearl student of Senju Tobirama, the future second Hokage. He was a clan prodigy, quickly learning jutsu of the highest capacity with ease and finesse. Although he had a rivalry with Shimura Danzo, the future sixth Hokage, Hiruzen easily surpassed Danzo, which led the sore war hawk to develop a plan to coup Hiruzen when he'd become the third Hokage with a division of ANBU named ROOT. Hiruzen was a valiant and self-sacrificial man as he volenteered to be the scapegoat for his team when they were battling a mess of Kumogakure shinobi. Tobimara, instead took the fall, appointing the Sarutobi as his successor.

The Third later in his life, would train the legendary Sannin: Jaraiya, Orochimaru and Tsunade. Just as the Senju are found in the shadow of the Hokage, it may be viable to apply that even more for the Sarutobi, as they held the most occupancy of the Hokage seat. Orochimaru became Hiruzen's star student, despite his perception of Orochimaru's inner struggle with malice. With Orochimaru's lust for power apparent, the wise man wouldn't let that man take his throne. Instead, he chose to pass the title of Hokage to Jaraiya's student, Namikaze Minato.

Although the third was retired from office, his shinobi career was far from over. His wife and ANBU took Uzumaki Kushina out of the village to give birth, as she was the bearer of the Kyuubi. The plan failed, but Hiruzen wasn't going to let that stump them, when Kyuubi was unleashed, he led the defense against the beast. The Third stepped up against the beast and managed to come out alive, to see Minato give his last whim to protect his son, by sealing Kyuubi in him. Hiruzen took his second term in office and ensured Naruto would be kept safe by hiding the identity of his father.

A short time after that, Hiruzen led an investigation to find abductions within Konohagakure no Sato. All signs pointed towards Orochimaru and though painful, a confrontation was needed. Upon discovering the bodies were used to ensure Orochimaru's immortality, Hiruzen couldn't kill his pupil and let him escape. The Third was involved in the elder council dealing with the Uchiha massacre, giving Itachi the order to wipe out his clan and save his brother. Orochimaru would come back later after training the Sound Five and eventually kill Hiruzen.

The son of Hiruzen, Asuma had had a falling out with his father and left the village. In his time of wayward nature, he carried on the strong Sarutobi power and joined the Twelve Guardian Ninja dedicated to protecting the Fire Daimyo. When they planned a coup d'etat on the Hokage and planned on conquering the rest of the nation, the Twelve Guardians fell apart and only three members survived. Asuma and Chiriku, the future head monk of the Fire Temple. It was rumored he was able to defeat nine Otogakure shinobi of Jounin level without being hit, nothing short of a Sarutobi. He was killed at the Fire Temple, ironically by Hidan.

Another Sarutobi worth mentioning was the nephew of Asuma and grandson of Hiruzen, Sarutobi Konohamaru. He was a troublemaker and trickery as a kid, following in the path of the Seventh Hokage, Uzumaki Naruto. He wielded the Rasengan technique and would pass it down his family line. Konohamaru would become the student of Uzumaki Naruto and would suceed his as Eighth Hokage. Konohamaru led in office for a long time before passing the baton to a member in his family with keen potential, Sarutobi Mari.

Mari would follow in his ancestor's footsteps and hold the position of Hokage twice. In and out of office due to the death of his successor Amanohara Konpeki, he would lead the Leaf until Kumogakure attacked, where he tossed the stone to Yamamoto Hiruki before taking the people he could and fleeing to defend his people. Mari would wander for quite some time, eventually passing on his technique the Rasengan to Kinsen (Namikaze) Rasen, further tying in Otogakure and Konohagakure. The clan itself remained wholly for the Leaf, not one of them were coerced to following the Empire. As an honorific clan, it was preposterous to think of that. They'd resume their position as samurai over shinobi for the time being and defended their home that way. Some, however led assaults, like Sarutobi Zakouru against the Daimyo of Hotarunoshi. He had to leave his sons to pursue the Will of Fire and paved a path for when Hyuuga Yatako came and settled the score for Konoha. After that, Sarutobi Zakouru would teach the Juusandaime Hokage formal politics.

In the coming years, Zakouru would help shape the clan, but the prime example of leadership of the Sarutobi is a man by the name of Jenoba. Yatako came across him in his journeys of rebuilding the country. In the northern region, Jenoba personally protected the town of Daeru with such pristine leadership skill that crime was in less than 1% in the two years he rose to judge. Though he is not a ninja by trade, his skilled political work has done more for the clan than any single individual. He is also rumored to have had a pact with the monkey king Enma, despite not having any formal ninja rank or training.

Sarutobi Non-Ninja:

• Sarutobi Jenoba

Gender: Male

Role: Clan Head

Information: Sarutobi Jenoba is the current clan head of the Sarutobi clan. He is the brother of Sarutobi Mari. At a young age he was enrolled into the ninja academy, but was quickly discovered to have no talent for the life of a ninja. Not only did he lack the inherent skills that was notable in his clansmen, he had a physical disability that left him with weak constitution and shortness of breath when exerted. Where his body failed him his mind would triumph however, and as his brother and sister trained in the ways of shinobi he trained in the ways of a statesman. He quickly climbed in academics, becoming renowned in his own way and climbing the political ladder. His mind is the most valued asset of the Sarutobi clan, and his ability to trade and position the village had lead to more than a number of prosperous years.

Konohamaru's legacy lives on in the many reforms and programs that began during his time as Hokage. Konohamaru retired after 35 years as Hokage, leaving him tied as the longest Hokage in the village, the other being Uzumaki Naruto. Konohamaru famously said with a smile upon his retirement, "It would not feel right to pass Naruto Oyabun when he is not here to defend himself". He was 92 years old when he retired.

uO4jDN6.png Cultural Information:

Clan Traits:

• The Sarutobi have a wide variety of physical traits that vary from one side of their family tree to another. One common thread with many of the Sarutobi is their unruly hair that often comes together into spikes. In addition, many of the older males of the clan favor facial hair, having genetics that allow for full beards, especially in the sides of the family more closely descended to Konohamaru. Of those descended from Sarutobi Mirai, a recessive but very unique scarlet eye color may mark an individual as a Sarutobi of that lineage.

Clan Outlook:

• The Sarutobi value wisdom over all things. They build relationships and trust with others through diplomacy and sharing of knowledge. They are often looked too for settling disputes as well as envoys to foreign lands. They are well known for their ability to act under pressure and make decisions that account for the larger picture when put to the test.

Clan Professions:

Though the clan leans towards shinobi life, there is a good section of that do not work as professional ninja. The Sarutobi have a presence in the workforce and government of Hi no Kuni and can be found in many walks of life. Learning to do better and how to share that wisdom with others is a tenant of theirs.

Clan Estates:

• The Sarutobi have a single large estate where the clan head and their extended family live. This is where the clan meets to discuss matters of import, and in general is open to clan members to use as they need. The estates are broke up into the clan head residence and the general areas which consist of many guest rooms for those traveling from afar as well as a number of gardens and sitting rooms. The majority of the clan live outside of the estates in their homes, though many live within a few blocks of the estates as it makes for easy transit when they need to assemble.

Clan Relations:

20px-Aburame_Symbol.svg.png Aburame Clan | Friendly
The Sarutobi and Aburame clan are on friendly terms. They do not work closely together as clans, but their members often work within cells on missions and make strong partners.

20px-Akimichi_Symbol.svg.png Akimichi Clan | Allied
The strength of the Akimichi clan is one that the Sarutobi have relied on since the founding of the village. Though their bond with the Akimichi are not as strong as the Akimichi's bond to the Nara and Yamanaka clans, they do hold a special place in their alliance. The four clans have often shared teacher and student roles, with each new generation swapping their roles and raising the other. The Sarutobi will always find a safe roof and warm meal in the homes of the Akimichi clan.

22px-Haruno_Symbol.png Haruno Clan | Allied
The Haruno clan and the Sarutobi clan have been allies for many decades. Though the Sarutobi does not consider the Haruno strong, they recognize their unique role in the village and their loyalty. The Sarutobi honor their time in the village and have often come to their aid in times of need as a show of their friendship.

DwjjB5L.png Hatake Clan | Rivals
The Sarutobi clan shares many of the ideals that the Hatake clan does, but instead of creating a strong bond between the two clans it has created an intense rivalry with them instead. Unlike the rivalry between the Uchiha and Hyuuga who have superior genetic skills, the Sarutobi's rivalry with the Hatake comes in the manner of two siblings who are too similar that they often get compared together. As such, the two clans are often trying to prove their excellence over the other.

20px-Hy%C5%ABga_Symbol.svg.png Hyūga Clan | Neutral
The Hyūga and Sarutobi hold each other in high regards, but they often don't see eye to eye. Because they are both larger powers in the village they often steer clear of each other. Though in the past they were closer, the handling of the Uchiha clan as well as various policy decisions put in place by the Sarutobi have caused the Hyūga to distance themselves. In the same vein, the Hyūga's first Hokage Yatako did not sit well with many elder Sarutobi members.

20px-Inuzuka_Symbol.svg.png Inuzuka Clan | Friendly

The Sarutobi and Inuzuka are not close on a clan level, but the members get along well enough. They are on friendly terms but neither clan calls on the other very often.

20px-Namikaze_symbol.png Namikaze Clan | Neutral

The Namikaze's carefree manner does not sit well with the Sarutobi's deliberate and thoughtful approach to life. Though there is no animosity towards the Namikaze, the Sarutobi have never had an interest in approaching the clan for an alliance and the Namikaze have equally not sought a relationship.

20px-Nara_Symbol.svg.png Nara Clan | Allied
The Nara and the Sarutobi have a long history of working side by side for the betterment of Konoha. The two clans often compliment each other, and they both have deep respect for discipline of mind that often results in their elders thinking alike and allying on many issues that face the village. Through this bond they also share favorable alliances with the Akimichi and Yamanaka clans. If the Sarutobi are in need of strength of mind, they will look to the Nara first.

35px-Senju_Symbol.svg.png Senju Clan | Allied

The Sarutobi still feel a loyalty to the Senju that harkens back to the original founding of Konohagakure. Though the Senju clan does not call on them often, when in times of need the Sarutobi are the first to be in line.

Yoj0QJT.png Shimura Clan | Neutral
The Shimura clan is small and often not directly involved in the village politics unless individuals rise in power. The Sarutobi see the clan more as a collection of individuals in which to make alliances rather than a clan as a whole. Because of this the Sarutobi see Shimura as neutral, needing to understand each member of the clan individually as their motives can often change greatly from their brethren.

20px-Uchiha_Symbol.svg.png Uchiha Clan | Rivals
Like the Hyūga, the Uchiha are a strong and well respected bloodline within the village. The Uchiha have ancient grievance with the Sarutobi clan that started with the decision underneath the Third Hokage Hiruzen's to wipe out the clan at the hands of Uchiha Itachi. This nearly resulted in the extinction of the clan, and they have never truly forgotten this betrayal. Though the clans will work together underneath the banner of the village, it is very rare for them to form alliances on their own, even on an individual level.

20px-Uzushiogakure_Symbol.svg.png Uzumaki Clan | Friendly

The Uzumaki have a strong lineage of producing strong individual members, but the two clans have never really clicked on an organizational level. While the current clan head of the Sarutobi is in good standing with the clan head of the Uzumaki, there is no formal alliance between them outside of their affiliation with Konoha.

20px-Yamanaka_Symbol.svg.png Yamanaka Clan | Allied
Like the Akimichi and the Nara, the Sarutobi hold a strong relationship with the Yamanaka. The four clans have often shared teacher and student roles, with each new generation swapping their roles as and raising the other. The general Ninjutsu prowess of the Sarutobi helps to aid the Yamanaka in their role as support for the village.
