Limit Release; Mind's Eye | Nogareruton; Seishin no Me | 限遁•精神の眼
Type: Genjutsu
Rank: Sennin
Cost:  190 Chakra
Effects: The target is granted 'Haste' for three (3) turns. In addition, the target gains a Shield with 170 Health for four (4) turns. The Shield created by this jutsu may only be granted two (2) times per battle.
Description: Similar to how 'Hachimon' releases the capabilities of the body by unlocking its built in restraints, Seishin no Me is a mental ability to trick the mind into exceeding its normal limits for a short burst of time. Though this skill lacks the power of the actual 'Hachimon' on which it is based, it is considered to be much safer due to its limited time and power. In addition to faster movement of body, the ninja is able to process information much more quickly than normal which gives them an advantage against incoming attacks as well. Though this premonition is limited, it is thought to be quite powerful when put in the right hands.
Points: 3

Designer Notes

- Genjutsu shields are rare, but the flavor here is that it is simply giving the user more awareness to avoid damage.

- This is mostly a Genjutsu rather than a Ninjutsu because I liked the flavor of it as a Genjutsu.

- Otherwise pretty simple.

You won't be able to get straight-across value for a Genjutsu shield. I'm not sure if we have a ratio written out in unwritten rules somewhere, but the main site says that Genjutsu barrier/shields will need special costing.

Added a clause to limit the shield uses to twice per battle, thanks!

What ratios would you consider good for Genjutsu physical shields? Honestly when I wrote that it was mainly because I wanted to make sure that they made sense, hence the 'consideration' in the Barrier rules. I think that a Genjutsu shield that blocks Ghost Damage might need special ratios, but I don't see a problem with Genjutsu shields using the same ratios for physical damage. Maybe they should have a cost cap per rank? So Genjutsu can only make smaller Shields + Barriers? Not sure, you didn't really give me any thoughts with your post there.

I didn't have any in particular. This is (surprisingly) the first of its kind, so it will sort of set the precedent going further. I'll have to ruminate on an idea, just wanted to see if you had any ideas off the top of your head.

Whenever I read that rule, I kind of assumed that it was talking about Ghost Damage barriers/shields rather than Physical Damage ones. I don't see much of a problem with a Genjutsu Shield/Barrier that blocks physical damage as being priced normally. That being said, there was one instance of a Genjutsu Barrier that blocked Ghost Damage. The decision that I had come to regarding it was fairly strict, but can be summarized as: Usable once per battle, uses a ratio of a rank lower, and can adjust those rules by adding large chunks of fail chance. My rules are outlined in this post.

Those seem like good rules for blocking ghost damage, at least as a starting point. Because ghost damage has entirely different rules for modifiers and defense the way that shields need to be tuned to interact with them is an entirely different beast. However, I tend to agree with Hardcore Skittlez that using the same ratios as the other two for physical damage probably isn't a problem, but still open to discussion because Genjutsu does and should work on entirely different axis than the other two. My suggestion for Genjutsu physical damage barriers would be to let them use the same ratios, but give them a cap of how large of barriers or shields they can make at each rank.

Chuunin: 200 HP Maximum (80% Tai / Nin)

Jounin: 570 HP Maximum (75% Tai / Nin)

Sennin: 1200 HP Maximum (~66.66% Tai / Nin)

This way they can still be useful, but don't have the potential of the other two.
