Private Contractor 2.0

Recommended Posts

Private Contractor (PC)
Availability: General, but must have permission from Warr to use it.
Description: Some shinobi are fanatically loyal to their village, and would never consider doing any work on the side, or any work without being ordered to. Other shinobi are happy to be busy, and actively look for 'side-jobs', this is also true of “PC” who were not affiliated with a hidden village in the first place or are from a now destroyed hidden village or organization.

Effects: The user may assign themselves missions up to the rank that their 'Ninja rank' or 'equivalent ninja rank' would be as listed in the 'mission' system on the leveling page. These missions may be anything from simple side jobs or money making schemes (such as playing music on a street for money, pick pocketing, or watching some shepherd's sheep while the shepherd goes to market.), and they may do so without problem or orders from someone else.

In addition, you may agree to forgo monetary rewards from the mission to instead get additional EXP, with the rate being 3 EXP for every 2$ you would have otherwise gained.
Restrictions:

  • These missions are not recorded as normal missions of the equivalent rank would be, as they are 'unofficial' missions, and the records of the village do not account for them. They do not affect your mission count as a result.
  • Only standard level/rank missions may be taken through this skill.
  • Any rewards providers by an unofficial mission are limited to the basic amounts suggested on the mission page (i.e. An S Rank mission can only provide 3000 EXP and $1200).
  • The user may assign one "unofficial" mission per day.
Cost: -1

I have permission to repost this/retake control of the skill.
It may be iffy, but I think that allowing a Freelancer character to exchange EXP in that way, more or less inversely as to the way GM arc EXP can be turned into $, is fair because this costs a skill point to do/use, and it gives an advantage for that. Edited by Warr

Remind me why this requires general staff consent? In what way could it be abused?

That's more or less a lay over from the original skill, because it was 'iffy' to be able to assign yourself missions. Ultimately I don't think it -should- require general staff permission, or tracking, because it isn't like self-assigned missions automatically get approved just because someone does them. I was going to remove it, but didn't want to do it without consulting someone first rather than throwing off the balance of it all.

Edit:

Removed the staff restriction because it isn't like if someone's abusing it they can't be dealt with on a singular basis, and really it'd be hard to abuse.

I assume they're recorded alongside "normal" missions on the sheet, correct?

Yep. That is how its been done every other time with this skill, under an additional, 'unofficial missions' heading.
