Ravage Nocturne Posted November 12, 2008 Posted November 12, 2008 (edited) Nankan (難関) -Basic Clan Information- Clan Residence: Kumogakure no Sato (雲隠れの里) of Rai no Kuni Clan Starter: None Clan Head(s): Nankan Nihame (Recessive family) and Nankan Daiki (Dominant family) Clan Element: Lightning and Cloud Clan Bloodline: Recessive: The Teizoukaifuu (逓増開封) Clan Emblem/Seal: A golden shield with both a crimson feather and sword intercepting it diagonally ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ -Clan Genetics and Tendencies- Clan Specialty: The Nankan are primarily Ninjutsu-oriented, though it is not out of the question or infrequent that one might specialize in the areas of Genjutsu or Taijutsu; they are renowned for their skillful mastery over all fields of combat, most often seen in the form of 'jack of all trades, master of none' Clan Breeding Habits: Breeding outside the Clan is considered unlawful and forbidden by the culture. Instances where evidence is provided can result in Clan exile, though the more extreme -and most typical- punishment is the death of the 'foreign' infant Typical Clan Traits: Although there is no singular phenotype outstanding by comparison, brown hair and green eyes tends to be the most commonly paired features. Skin color ranges as much as hair and eye color does, and physical structure varies pending activity more so than genetics Clan Cuisine: The Nankan enjoy a large variety of foods, though the majority of which consists of vegetables and fruits grown native. Meats -especially fish- tend to be imported by merchants and traders, as Rai no Kuni lacks a stable harvest of these categories Clan Colors: Brown and Green tend to be the most common colors in both traditional and modern garb -Clan Politics and Loyalties- Clan Politics: Only the Dominant Nankan are allowed seats of power in Kumogakure no Sato, the Recessive banned from assuming such a role by their brethren. Nonetheless, a shared council between the two branches identifies upcoming events, discusses clan policies and culture, and otherwise bands together to make clan-wide announcements Clan Loyalty: Whether Dominant or Recessive, the Nankan share a fierce loyalty to Rai no Kuni. The Dominant branch, having enjoyed a political seat of power within Kumogakure no Sato, is perhaps the more realized of the two, helping make governmental decisions and policies, while the Recessive family furthers their resolve through other means. Love of country is a powerful motivator of the clan, inspiring the legend of the "Yama-Arashi", and sometimes causing more trouble than expected -weaving themselves too deeply into the political world- ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Clan Age and Status Within Rai no Kuni: The Nankan are a volatile people, many suffering from fatal complication within the womb, should they be carriers of the recessive gene. The fragile embryo is unable to accomdate the pressurization of Chakra, and in most cases -a given 70%- the child will pass away in vitro. For this reason, the Recessive family has faced a concerning decline in population, while the Dominant -facing no such difficulties-continues to grow as normal. The "True" Nankan (as the Recessive began to refer to themselves as being, the only ones with any special abilities) manage to survive by grace of the gods alone. The Dominant family has strong political ties within Rai no Kuni, many of which are on multiple boards and councils. Although the Recessive branch is barred from joining, they are allowed to form their own council as to negotiate with the Dominant family. For this reason, on occasions both families will represent themselves by elected council, and attempt to navigate current altercations Clan Age and Status Outside Rai no Kuni: The Nankan are rarely -if ever- encountered outside their native land, making it difficult for foreigners to identify them. Whilst traveling, a Nankan can expect to be greeted, and even if bearing the seared tenketsu, will not be questioned or identified by it, since the Clan keeps matters of its own within the walls of Kumogakure no Sato. Mostly shadows working alongside others, the Nankan exist unnoticed ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Nankan Legend of the Storm King: The Nankan are a spiritual people, and derive meaning from symbols and coincidences. Legend speaks of a child born beneath a blanket of violent storms that cease with his conception, a divine sign respective of this child's destiny. It is believed that this child will reunite the splintered Nankan Clan from the Recessive and Dominant branches into a single community. This “Yama-Arashi”, the mountainous storm, will extend messages of peace and unification to the countries of the world, seeking to halt the incessant violence and war that spurns from dissatisfaction and avarice. Serving as a beacon of hope, the child will travel from country to country, offering his services in hopes to align Kumogakure no Sato into a favorable position, allowing alliances to form from a series of good deeds and trustworthy reliability. This boy, cursed with the recessive blood of the Nankan, will face incalculable obstacles along his journey as he is vexed with the inconsistencies of the tenketsu, gathering power by his own indomitable will, and unearth the immaculate power that is said to lie within. The Nankan believe that the Yama-Arashi will rule his country not from the tower of the Raikage, but from the hearts of the citizens. Drowning his compatriots with his unwavering courage, people will follow in his footsteps towards a world of peace, and forever inscribe the great Rai no Kuni into the hearts and minds of others. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Clan History: It was only through illegal experimentation that the Chakra openings of the tenketsu were tampered with that any form of Kekkei Genkai was established. The subject -despite the invasive procedure having led to the death of many before her- miraculously survived, and eventually gave birth to the first of what would be known as the "Recessive" Nankan. As time passed, multiple conceptions resulted in otherwise normal children, sparking the belief that despite the tenketsu being altered, there was a genetic component as result that was passed down recessively. Hypothetically, even if a past generation was largely recessive (which could never be the case, considering the rarity of the bloodline inheritance and the lethality coupled along with it) -developing dysfunctional inner coil systems genetically, rather than the original method of surgery- the majority of children would not express the dysfunctional tenketsu. These malformations cause the tenketsu to branch irregularly, pressurizing the Chakra and physical energies of the individual to the point that they 'close off' and prevent Chakra from interacting with the environment. This is due to the valves of the coil system being forcefully closed against the skin, where normally Chakra could exit through the pores; because of the deformity, the Chakra is unable to escape the body, and over a lifetime continues to build and compress, unable to escape. This causes the skin to 'blacken' in intricate patterns and designs where the tenketsu should open to the skin, becoming seared by the pressurized Chakra. As a Recessive Nankan develops, it is possible to begin breaking the sealed valves, allowing Chakra to exit the body. This process requires building a substantial level of Chakra, however, as it must be forced through the seals. Over periods of time, it was found that those who managed to break individual seals attained the natural ability to mold their Chakra as normally. Those who broke the majority of the seals (361, one for each of the tenketsu branches) expressed effortless control over their Chakra, having been forced to initially tamper with it under highly pressurized conditions. The Dominant family -those without the bloodline- took control of the Clan, deciding that the Recessive family -those with the bloodline, and surviving- was unable to interact in society considering their curious deformities (the blackened patterns of skin and their limitations). Having always been political by nature, the Dominant family refused to allow their reputation to become tarnished by the unnatural branch, and exiled them from Kumogakure no Sato, secluding them within the Clan's territory. To say that the Recessive branch was treated both unfairly and cruelly would be mild, since the Dominant branch failed to consider them 'human'. Instead, they believed the Recessive to be 'products of unnatural design' and labeled them as insufficient for purposes of the Clan. Regardless of being outraged the Recessive family had little authority on the matter, and was ultimately unable to rebel against their brethren. In instances where riotous acts occured, they were so viciously crushed by the Dominant branch that it became uncommon -and outlawed by the small Recessive culture- since the penalty of one riot was taken out on the branch as whole. Nonetheless, the Recessive family continued to develop, building a culture of their own with laws to adhere by, and although imprisoned within sanctions of the Dominant branch, enjoyed as close to normal a life as possible. Over time -as more curious Kekkei Genkai revealed themselves elsewhere-, the Dominant family determined that they would no longer be ashamed or lose face for introducing their 'flawed' brethren to Kumogakure no Sato. Releasing them -though suggesting they remain within the boundaries of Rai no Kuni- unto the world, the Recessive Nankan began to quickly establish themselves within the walls of their homeland. Although never holding similar political power to their brethren, they managed to become an accepted component of the population, regardless of their peculiarities. Recently, the Recessive Nankan have received acknowledgment for their services for the country, -having participated as such long ago, but only now being formally recognized- as many lives were given as 'cannon fodder' during war scenarios. Nonetheless, they now freely roam the country as they please, escaping the rigid hold of the Dominant family. They have formed a council to meet with their brethren as to discuss Clan policies and cultures, and thus advanced beyond initial expectation. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Post-War History: The Recessive branch (paritcularly, Nankan Azumi) has begun to closely track the habits of Nankan Nasake (her son). The child remains unaware of the fact that it was his mother who prompted him to travel to the other countries with interest of observing them. He was instructed to gather information to aid Rai no Kuni in improving overall standing among the other countries after the war, and for this reason, was led to believe it as being a patriotic task. However, the true intentions of the woman appear to be skewed, as she desperately believes -and prays- her child is the foretold "Yama-Arashi". The exact reason she pushed the council into sending him away was her clairvoyant prediction of the Dominant family's slow attempts at depriving the Recessive from their seat of power -proof that history repeats itself; themselves now envious of the Recessive abilities and recent praise-, once more threatening to seclude them away from society, as they had been in the past. The Nankan Clan's tenuous internal relationship is beginning to unravel, leaving the Recessive branch fearful for what could very well come to pass as a repeat of historic mistreatment. A mother acted on behalf of her child's immediate safety, since she could no longer vouch for her own ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ -Areas of Interest- Clan Status: Open (PC); 1 Recessive, 3+ Dominant Closed (NPC) -Existing Nankan PCs: Nankan Nasake (Recessive) Updated Nankan Topics of Interest: Defensive Clan Ninjutsu 1 Defensive Clan 'Anti-Genjutsu' Ninjutsu Elemental Defensive Clan Ninjutsu 1 Offensive Clan Ninjutsu 1 Offensive Clan Ninjutsu 2 Utility Clan Ninjutsu 1 Miscellaneous Clan Ninjutsu 1 Miscellaneous Clan Ninjutsu 2 Miscellaneous Clan Ninjutsu 3 Nankan Clan Mastery Skills Familial Nankan Clan JP Reduction Removed or Outdated: Nankan Ran Nankan Ryousei -Clan Jutsu: Nankan Clan Ninjutsu #1 (Gennin) Nankan Clan Ninjutsu #2 Nankan Elemental Skins I and Nankan Elemental Skins II (Unapproved) Nankan Clan Mastery Skills #1 -Clan Movements and Updates: Nankan Clan Recent Affairs; Council Meeting Edited October 25, 2011 by Ravage Nocturne
Ravage Nocturne Posted August 18, 2009 Author Posted August 18, 2009 (edited) Clan Update: Khaos will be helping me design skills, jutsu, and ideas for the Clan. In the event that I am away for any significant period of time, he will take my place. Otherwise, I plan on this Clan being 'active' in the sense that I will be updating their current affairs when reasonable, explaining the going ons of the culture, politics, etc. I think that owners of other clans should consider doing the same, and transform their clans into 'living' things that change with time, instead of just being a heritage. Since each clan has a culture, this should be exaggerated to the point of having the Clans meet, discuss the future, enforce laws within their own, etc. Just wanted to let anyone know who's interested in the clan, that it will be more interactive than usual. EDIT: Completely redesigned portions of the Clan. Reformatted the information, reorganized it, and made it more clear; added links to potential jutsu, skills, and current affairs Edited August 18, 2009 by Ravage Nocturne
